An Dealbh Mòr ( the big picture) was a two year Gaelic/English visual arts and performance project with Lasair Ealain led by Julie Brook with Kath MacLeod and a team of artists involving the pupils of Bùnsgoil Shlèite, celebrating the landscape of South Skye. The children worked in different sites learning to draw in pencil, charcoal and artists’ watercolours. They used these studies to create the large scale charcoal drawing and painting on canvas. The performance was based on the geological evolution of Skye. Using dance, movement, sound and music the children performed on the large painting with the audience looking down from the balconies above. The performance and exhibition took place in Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Skye. The drawings were exhibited in An Tuireann, Skye; An Lanntair, Lewis and the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh. The project was funded by the Scottish Arts Council, Leader +, Commun na Gàidhlig, Highland Council, Young Films. An Dealbh Mòr was shortlisted for a Highland Council award.
